Why Having Just A Facebook Page Doesn’t Cut It Anymore…
Have you ever googled something (a new service or product you need), the search results come up and you click on one of the links only to find it directs you not to a website but to a Facebook page?
🙄SO annoying right??
As a business owner, I get it. Facebook is free and its convenient AF.
But here’s the thing, as a consumer, this scenario (which happens waaaaay too often) is a nightmare and a total waste of time.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Facebook is a super valuable tool for businesses, and I might even say it’s essential for most businesses out there.
But let’s be real…
Any average Joe with a phone in their pocket can set up a Facebook page in a matter of minutes and call it a day.
Doesn’t really scream credibility now does it?
Plus, these days anyone can pay for followers, likes and reviews, so how can we trust that a company is legit when they only have a social media page to go off of? I guarantee nobody is handing over credit card details to someone they don’t trust.
When we look something up on Google it's because we need information. And we don’t just need that information, we want it delivered to us from a trustworthy source, as clearly, and conveniently as possible.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…🗣️ WE ARE IMPATIENT.
When we click that Google link expecting to land on a website, and we land on a Facebook page instead, we are immediately annoyed.
No one has the time, or quite frankly the interest to scroll all the way down your feed, past your employee birthday announcement, photo of your shop dog or your “Motivation Monday” quote to find what they’re looking for, and that’s IF what they’re looking for is even posted on your feed!
We want to click on that Google link and immediately land somewhere we can easily find all of the answers to our questions as quickly as possible and use that information to make informed consumer decisions.
👏🏻TIME 👏🏻IS 👏🏻MONEY people.
Especially when it comes to potential customers.
We are busy. We have very short attention spans. We are impatient.
If I land on your FB Page and I don’t immediately see what I need, I’m out.👋🏻
And guess where I’m going?
➡Your competitor.
Why?
Because they also came up in my Google search results and when I click their link I’m immediately taken to their website. They look professional, credible, have answers to all of my questions, I can buy or book online, they didn’t waste my time and because I got exactly what I expected when I clicked that Google link I now trust them more, which means they’ll likely get my business.
They made it easy.
So should you have social media for your business? YES! Absolutely you should! It’s a fun easy way to introduce your brand to the world, show off your skills, engage with your target audience and build relationships.
BUT social media should support your website…not replace your website.
You should be using it to drive traffic to your website where you have total control over how your brand is represented and positioned.
Your website should be the place where people from anywhere (not just your friends or followers) can find detailed information about your company, view your products, skills or services, and ultimately go from potential customers to paying customers.
So bottom line…having just a Facebook page doesn’t cut it anymore. You may have been able to get away with it 10 years ago, but at the end of the day you really need both social media (and many would argue more than just Facebook) AND a professionally designed website that work together to convert potential customers into paying customers.
